Internal Control (2-day course) March 25 & 26, 2008 An in-depth course for internal and independent auditors covering COSO and PCAOB internal control requirements. Special emphasis will be placed on the evaluation, documentation, and testing of internal control elements and procedures.

Central Accounting Systems Forms & Procedures April 9, 2008 This course covers a comprehensive overview of the State Comptroller’s Office. The participant will be introduced to the ten independent sections for processing financial data. Emphasis is placed on state and agency level responsibilities, information and paper flow, resolving problems, and nightly data system updates.

April 22, 2008 This course covers the processing procedures for payment of vouchers through the state of Alabama Comptroller’s Office. The elements of the course include: data flow, state regulations, audit process, and filing and storing for audit trail requirements.

Auditing Standards April 29, 2008 This course covers auditing standards promulgated by the AICPA, PCAOB, and GAO. As an introductory course, it provides an explanation of the basic types of auditing standards and their applicability in the government industry. This course can also serve as an excellent review or refresher course for auditors, as well as accountants who are not auditors. (This course requires knowledge or prior exposure to auditing standards.)
Introduction to Governmental Accounting (2-day course) May 14 & 15, 2008 This course covers the basic elements of fund accounting and governmental financial reporting. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Standards that have been issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) are incorporated as an integral part of this course. Elements of accounting for GASB fund(s) revenues, expenditures, expenses, debt, assets, budgetary control, and the preparation of financial statements are presented.
(This course is designed for individuals needing a review of governmental accounting or for those trained accountants with little or no government accounting experience or exposure.)
Governmental Auditing Standards May 19, 2008 This course covers the Yellow Book prepared by the U.S. Government Accountability Office. The Yellow Book is the definitive work on Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards. In addition to the Yellow Book, PCAOB’s pronouncements (with emphasis on internal control) will also be presented.

Introduction to State Purchasing (Half-day course) June 5, 2008 This course provides an overview of the Alabama Department of Finance Division of Purchasing. Participants will learn about the purchasing process, bidding procedures, requisitions, purchase orders, and other relevant documents.
